Burping Your Baby
58
Feeding your baby for the first time can be an exciting experience. Plus it can be a little intimidating especially of you don't know what to expect. So here is a helpful guide to feeding and burping
Burping helps get rid of some of the air that babies tend to swallow during feeding. If your baby is not frequently burped, the air they swallow can lead to spitting up crankiness or even gas.
How to burp your baby
When it's time to burp your baby. Gentle repeated patting on the babies back should do the trick. There is no need to pound hard on their backs. For precaution you might want to have a burping rag handy.
Different positions for burping
• sit upright and hold your baby against your chest your baby's chin should rest on your shoulder will supporting his or her head and neck with one hand gently pat your baby's back with the other hand
• hold your baby sitting up in your lap or across your knee support your baby's chest and head with one hand by crating your baby's chin in the palm of your hand now pat your baby's back gently
•lay your baby on you lap or his or her belly support your baby's head and make sure it's higher then his or her chest gently pat the baby's back
If the baby seems fussy while feeding stop and try burping the baby. Try to burp your baby every 2 to 3 ounces that is if you are bottle feeding. For breast feeding each time you switch breasts. If the baby tends to be gassy or fussy during feeding try burping the baby every ounce during bottle feeding and every 5 minutes if you are breast feeding. If the baby does not burp after you have tryed for a few minutes. Change the baby position and try again. Always burp your baby when you are done feeding.
Sometimes your baby may awaken because of gas. If so simply pick him or her up and try burping. As your baby gets older you should not worry if your baby does not burp during or after every feeding. It usually means that your baby has learned to eat without swallowing excess air.
One suggestion I would like to pass on. Its about burping rags you don't need fancy ones just a pack of cloth diapers will do the trick. In the long run it will also be cheaper. That is what I use on my 2 1/2 month old daughter Kristina

That was one of my favorite chores as a dad. I would rub the babys' backs in little circles and pat them just a little bit once in a while. It was a pleasure to see the relief on their faces when the little gassy burps would finally come up :0)

Thank you for a smart hub. When I see young mothers pounding away on their little one's back I cringe.
