Quite Interesting
As if you don't already know. Our flag has stars and stripes The stripes are red and white and the stars are white with a blue background. But do you really know the true history of our flag. Lets break it down starting with thirteen horizontal stripes seven red alternating with 6 white. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies. Which are Massachusetts, New Hampshire. Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Maryland. The stars represent the 50 states. What do the colors of the flag mean? Some people don't really know this. Red is hardness and valor ,white is purity and innocence, blue is vigilance, perseverance and justice. Between 1777 and 1960 Congress passed several acts that changed the shape and design
Act of January 13, 1784 gave use the 15 stripes and 15 stars after May 1795
Act of April 4, 1818 gave us 13 stripes and one star for each state to be added on the 4th of July.
Executive Order of President Taft dated June 24, 1912 proportion of the flag and provided for arrangement of the stars in six horizontal rows of eight plus a single point of each star to be upwards.
Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated Jan 3, 1959 that provided the arrangement of the stars in seven rows of seven stars staggered horizontally and vertically
Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated Aug 21,1959 provided the arrangement of the stars in nine rows of stars staggered horizontally and eleven rows of stars staggered vertically
So as you can see through the years our flag has changed. Who made our first flag? In May of 1776 ,Betty Ross sewed the first American flag. For more then 200 years the flag has become the symbol of our nations strength and unity. It's been the source of pride and inspiration for millions of citizens So as you can see the flag as really changed alot from back then til now. And it still stands today. The one thing I found really interesting is. When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.
