In the 1890's little was known about the health of children. Plus the care of sick children. Doctors have had few means of therapy or no cures. But many thought that fresh air especially ocean air was beneficial. Reverend Rufus Tobey developed a plan that would help improve children sickness by taking trips to Boston Harbor in the summertime. Then in 1894 the floating hospital was launched on a rented barge. The center quickly grew into a center for the diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases. Then in 1906 a new vessel the first in the world designed and built as a hospital ship was launched as a new home of the Floating Hospital. In the early part of the century the floating hospital made sustained contributions to childhood diseases. Then in the spring of 1927 the ship was destroyed in a fire. Then it was rebuilt on land in 1931. The Floating Hospital merged with what is now known and called Tufts- New England Medical Center in 1965 and the modern facility was opened in 1962 Today the Floating Hospital for Children is now a modern children hospital. Offering a full range of outpatient and inpatient services. It include a complete staff of doctors ans specialists for caring of children health. The maternity was opened in 1992. The doctors providing care for mothers fetus and newborns. The hospital is committed to provide the finest care available for children. For example doctors at the hospital are working on ground breaking treatments for diseases such as respiratory distress syndrome of the newborn leukemia and childhood arthritis. The hospital maintains strong affiliations with many community hospitals providing specially and complementary services. It also works in partnership with community to influence the factors that contribute to good health. My partner and I are so thankful for this hospital. They took really good care of our daughter Kristina.
