How To Treat Baby Acne
63
We all know having a baby can change your life. Bring home a baby from the hospital can be a joyous and plus stressful at times. You can see your baby is perfect from head to there tiny toes. Then all of a sudden you notice these red bumps all over. In most cases these red bumps turn out to be baby acne which affects most babies at some point during infancy
Causes
Most part the cause of baby acne is hormones. Your baby gets these hormones passed to them during the last days of your pregnancy. Which causes the oil glands in the skin to become more active. The overactive oil grands produce little pimples or red bumps. Other ways for your baby to receive hormone's is through breast milk.
Appearance
Baby acne can come in many forms. It may look like pimples and forms whiteheads. Sometimes it may come in a form of a rash or red bumps. It usually appears on your baby's face. But it can also spread to your baby's chest and back. Just be careful if you start to see your baby's skin crack or bleed, see your pediatrician.
Lenght Of Acne
It can first appear when your baby is a few days old. It usually starts appearing around three to four weeks of age. Sometimes it can clear up just to come back again. Once the baby's hormones are back in balance it should go away. Baby acne is usually gone for good between four to six months of age.
Treatment
Don't use acne medication on your baby's acne. Excess saliva and breast milk on your baby's face can irritate there skin and may make the acne worse. Make sure you keep the skin clean especially after feedings. You can gently clean the areas once a day with water and possibly mild baby soap. Just be careful if using baby soap don't use to much soap which can irritate your baby's skin.
Precautions
Keep your baby cool and comfortable. If the baby becomes overheated. This may cause the skin to become irritated and make the acne worse. Don't put lotions or oils on the baby's acne. That will make it alot worse. It might be tempting to scrub or try to pick at the acne. Don't because this will make it alot worse too.
So from my point of view. Baby acne can look ugly at times. But just be patient. It will go away eventually. It may seem like it won't and may take forever. But it will go away. If you are concerned ask your baby's doctors
