History Of Latch Hook

Latch hook is a fairly recent method of rug hooking. Rugs are either hooked or punched,but latch hook uses small scraps of yarn and the distinctive hook that gives the crafts its name. Rug hooking was developed in the early 19Th century,but lately latch hook was recently added to the art.

About Latch Hook Kits

Latch hook kits come with a canvas, precut yarn and a design chart. Some kits include the latch hook and some don't. They come in two different ways. They come with wooden or plastic handles. I personally like the wooden ones. Then some hooks are straight or some bend. Kits come in variety of sizes. Like 8 x 8 inches all the way up to 20 x 27 inches or some can be bigger. It depends on your project you are working on. Kits teach kid dexterity and coordination as well shows them how to follow are chart and instructions. These kids can build confidence too. Latch hook kits can be used as a pillow, rug or a decoration wall covering.

How To Do Latch Hook

1. Hold latch hook tool in your hand

2. Fold yarn around hook tool above the hook

3. Hold yarn in place with your finger

4. Push hook down into one hole of the canvas. back out hole above. Don't let yarn enter the hole

5. Place yarn between latch and the hook. Yarn should be on top. And should be over on top of strand of canvas. Make sure ends are even too.

6. Quickly pull the latch hook back through the canvas pulling the yarn with it.

7. Pull on the two ends of the yarn to make a tight knot.

I've been doing latch hook since I was a teenager. I can still remember my first kit I did. It was an Owl. It was really cutie. I can remember the feeling I had when I finished it. It was a feeling of accomplishment. Latch hook can be a stress relief. I enjoy doing it as a hobby. I have many of them on my bedroom wall. Like a teddy bear with a heart, a rose, Santa Clause, rabbits, Christmas designs and alot more. I'm currently working on one now. It's precious moments. Even my daughter does latch hook. She enjoys it but I don't think as much as I do. So I will be doing alot more of them. Because I have been put on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy.
