What Is A Diaper Rash

Terms of a diaper rash to a mommy is. A rash that is literally a pain in the butt. To a baby its just pain and it makes them cry when they get changed. Now lets look at it in medical terms. A diaper rash is also called Dermatitis. Which mean a rash that is on the butt, genitals, lower abdomen or thigh folds of an infant or even a toddler. See the babies outside layer of skin normally forms a protective barrier that does prevent infections. Sometime the leading cause of a diaper rash is contact with wetness. When this happens natural oils are stripped away then the outer layer of skin is damaged.

Causes Symptoms

A rash can occur if there is chaffing of a diaper. This will show up around the edge of the diaper or at the waist and leg bands.There is very little discomfort to the baby. Chemicals or even detergent in the diaper are factors and also may play a part in result of which is contact dermatitis. Don't be alarmed these kinds of rashes clear up easily with proper care. But if ignored it could lead to what you call a secondary infection that is more difficult to get rid of.

Treatment

There are different kinds of treatments. One is herbal treatment. This is done by using Calendula which reduces inflammation, lightens tissues and disinfects. This is recommended for seborrhee dermatitis. The ointment should be applied everytime you change the babies diaper. Chickweed ointment can be soothing for irritated skin. Apply once or twice daily. Allopathic treatment is generally prescribed for a rash caused by bacteria. Then we have over-the-counter ointment. Some of us have heard of butt paste. Then we have more common ones that are called Desitin or Balmex. Which has to be applied everytime you change your baby.

Prevention

Frequent diaper changes are very important to keep the skin dry and healthy. Application of powder and ointments is not recommend when there is no rash present.

Expected Results

Treated diaper rash will resolve fairly quickly if no underlying health problem or skin diseases

So as you can see a diaper rash can be very easily to take care of if you don't ignore it. Plus if your baby has no diaper rash. Everyone is a happy camper. If you know what I mean.
